Dry Eyes

Tears are necessary to maintain a healthy cornea and conjunctiva.

Deficiency of tear production by the Lacrimal gland causes an irritable and burning sensation, often with reflex secondary tearing.

Treatments include artificial tears and other lubricants.

Sometimes the lacrimal puncta are occluded to conserve the tear in the eye (see diagram)
